Tennis Volleys Drills

Our Top Recommended Bestselling Guides & Books Featuring Best of the Best Tennis Drills Known Today:

Tennis Volleys Drill: Catch

This drill is used especially for begginers and to correct the players that have a big swing resulting in hitting the ball late, but also a very good warm up drill when the rate that the coach feeds is increased.

The coach is positioned inside the service box. The player stays in the other side of the court, close to the net, without the racket. The coach feeds a slow high ball easy enaugh for the player to catch it in front. Naturally in order to catch a ball the player dosen't take the hand all the way back but meets the ball in front. This drill should be repeated untill the player has a natural short volley swing, just as if he would catch the ball wit his hand.

Obs. In order to use the drill as a warm up, the coach moves closer to the net and the player steps back, near the service line. The coach feeds the ball, the player has to catch it and throw it immediately to the coach who then volleys it back to the player in random directions.

Tennis Volleys Drill: Stop and hit

This tennis volleys drill is used especially for begginers and helps to increase the controll.

The two players A and B are positioned inside the service box like in the picture. Player A plays the ball to player B easy enough for him to hit an easy volley. Player B first bounces the ball in the air with the racket and then volleys the ball back to player A who does the same. The ball shouldn't touch the ground.

Obs. If it's to difficult for the players to play toghether then the coach should step in one side in order to hit with more control to the players.

Players A and B start one ball each in the same time. They play down the line and the players C and D are playing cross. The ball shouldn't touch the ground.

I asked this question from myself once and of course my answer was 'Yes'. But how can i do that? I found the answer and i am going to share it with the tennis enthusiasts world wide. Everybody can become a great tennis player and the key is to watch and learn the game of tennis. If you keep on playing without learning the basics, you will end up spoiling your game and there will be a point where your tennis will come to a full stop i.e. No Further Improvement. I have seen many players getting frustrated, throwing rackets and yelling in the courts because their game does not improve further. There is only one basic fault and that is they never learnt the game. First step in tennis is to read and watch the basics and try them later into practice.
