Tips On Tennis: Drop Shot Techniques (Listed In The Order Of Importance)

1. Decide if a drop shot is appropriate. Recall, that a drop shot is most appropriate when two criteria are met... 1) Your opponent has just hit a neutral or defensive groundstroke which was weaker than both of you anticipated. 2) Your opponent is considerably out of position near the right or left extremes of the playing surface.

2. Watch the ball all the way to the strings.

3. Use a high to low stroke.

4. Emphasize the flight requirement of the drop shot.

5. Hit the ball with an awareness of racket pitch at impact.

6. Follow-through back to the ready position and no further.

7. Rotate TM2 to the proper o'clock position.

8. Hit all drop shots from a balanced position.

9. Early preparation; get your racket back and wait.

10. Maintain a firm wrist at impact.

11. Recover quickly back to the ready position.

Tips On Tennis: Drop Shot Development Exercises

1. The "Drop Shot, Put-Away" drill. While two players are both hitting neutral groundstrokes, one player attempts a perfect drop shot. In response, the other player attempts the sideline put-a-way shot for an outright winner. Both forehand and backhand sides should be practiced with this drill.

Note: This drill works best with a bucket of balls to minimize ball chasing.

2. Drop shot development using the practice wall. This is an excellent way to develop and perfect good drop shot technique. Special emphasis should be on making sure the ball is falling before it hits the wall, above the imaginary net of course.

Do You Really Want To Learn And Play Professional Tennis

I asked this question from myself once and of course my answer was 'Yes'. But how can i do that? I found the answer and i am going to share it with the tennis enthusiasts world wide. Everybody can become a great tennis player and the key is to watch and learn the game of tennis. If you keep on playing without learning the basics, you will end up spoiling your game and there will be a point where your tennis will come to a full stop i.e. No Further Improvement. I have seen many players getting frustrated, throwing rackets and yelling in the courts because their game does not improve further. There is only one basic fault and that is they never learnt the game. First step in tennis is to read and watch the basics and try them later into practice. 'Beyond The Baseline' is the best of the best source to learn everything of tennis.
